The DMExpress Service must be running on any DMExpress Server to which you wish to connect from a DMExpress GUI to submit tasks and jobs for execution, to view server statistics, or to browse files in a multi-locale environment. A DMExpress Workstation has no service.
When necessary, the service can be started/stopped as follows:
on Windows via the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services dialog
on Unix/Linux via the install or start_dmxd/stop_dmxd scripts
Navigate to the DMExpress/bin directory, where DMExpress is the DMExpress installation directory.
Run the command ./install
Select the Configure DMExpress Service option.
If the service is running, respond to the prompts accordingly to kill (stop) the service.
If the service is not running or not installed, respond to the prompts accordingly to install/configure/start the service as needed.
When stopping the service, any currently running jobs will lose connection and may or may not complete successfully upon service restart. Any jobs scheduled to start while the service is down will not be executed, but once the service is restarted, all remaining scheduled jobs will proceed accordingly.
As a best practice, it is recommended to wait until running jobs are completed before stopping the service.
