Resolving the WRITERR Error Summary
WRITERR error is generated when applying a new license key to an existing DMExpress installation and the DMExpress libraries cannot be stamped with the new license key.
To resolve the
WRITERR, ensure the following:
you have appropriate permissions to access the
DMExpress library files an anti-virus program is not blocking
DMExpress from accessing the library files the
DMExpress libraries are not being used by a DMExpress task or DMExpress job or by some other process that invokes DMExpress Symptom
When applying a new license key to an existing
DMExpress installation and when the DMExpress libraries cannot be stamped with the new license key, the following error message is issued:
(WRITERR) the license key cannot be installed
This error message is generated in one of the following cases:
You do not have the appropriate permissions to access the
DMExpress library files. An anti-virus program is blocking
DMExpress from accessing its libraries. The
DMExpress libraries are being used by a DMExpress task or DMExpress job or by some other process that invokes DMExpress. Resolution
To resolve the
WRITERR error, take the following steps.
Check that DMExpress or Some Other Process is Not Using the DMExpress Libraries
Find the processes that are using the
DMExpress libraries by running the following command:
fuser -u <dmexpress_home>/lib/*
fuser command is usually located in the /usr/sbin/ or /sbin/ directory. Wait for the processes to finish running and re-apply the license key.
Ensure that the
ssguiss.dll and ssguishared.dll DMExpress libraries are not being used by running the following commands at the Windows Command Prompt (accessed via Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt):
tasklist /m ssguiss.dll
tasklist /m ssguishared.dll
If any of the processes are using the
DMExpress libraries, wait for them to finish running and re-apply the license key.
Reboot or Reinstall if All Else Fails
WRITERR is generated after ensuring each of the outlined points, consider doing the following:
Reboot the system or server.
Uninstall and reinstall with the new license key.
