Resolving the INCHKSUM License Key Error

Article #: Product: Version:

Summary

The INCHKSUM license key error is generated during DMExpress software installation or application of a new key when either a corrupted license key file is provided or the manually entered key has an invalid checksum.

To resolve this error, verify whether the DMExpress license key file, DMExpressLicense.txt, is corrupted, or whether the manually entered key may have been typed incorrectly. Then, either re-run the installation or the applykey utility using an original, uncorrupted copy of the file, or obtain and apply a new DMExpress license key file.

Symptom

The error (INCHKSUM) the license key "%.*s" is not valid is generated during software installation or the application of a new key when the provided license key file has become corrupted or the manually entered license key has an invalid checksum.

Possible scenarios that can cause an INCHKSUM error include:

Resolution

Resolve the INCHKSUM error as follows:

  1. Verify that the license key file, DMExpressLicense.txt, is valid, or that the license key manually entered during installation or running applykey was entered correctly. If the license key file was edited, try reverting to the original license key file if available.
  2. In the following example of a DMExpress license key file (with the actual license key masked out with x’s), note the form of a valid DMExpress license key – 12 sets of 5 alphanumeric characters each, the last set of which is the checksum value (a computed error-detection value) noted in the INCHKSUM error message:

    # The following line is REQUIRED and must be the first line in license key file.

    "ABC Corp"

    #

    # DMExpress 07/01/2011 12/02/2013 "node_u1" "x86_64" 16 * * 13324 224 1024 0 0 0 99.99.99 * X999-1

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

  3. If the file looks valid, or you have an original, uncorrupted copy of the file, or believe that you may have entered the key incorrectly, you can try reapplying the license key.
  4. Otherwise, obtain and apply a new key.
