Resolving the INVNODE License Key Error

Article #: Product: Version:

Summary

The INVNODE license key error is generated when the DMExpress license key used to install DMExpress or run the applykey utility does not contain a license key for the node on which it is being applied, as identified in the message.

To resolve this error, verify whether the license key file contains a license key for the node name of the system where the key is being applied, and either run the applykey utility if it does, or obtain and apply a new key if it doesn't.

Symptom

The error (INVNODE) the license key (<key>) is not valid for node <nodename> is generated when the DMExpress license key file being used does not contain a license key for the node on which it is being applied, as identified in the message. Node-specific DMExpress license keys can only be used on the node for which they were generated.

Resolution

Resolve the INVNODE error as follows:

  1. Verify whether the DMExpress license key file contains a license key for the node name of the system on which you are applying it.

In the following example DMExpress license key file (with the actual license key masked out with x’s), note the node name node_u1 enclosed in quotes in the line that starts with # DMExpress:

    # The following line is REQUIRED and must be the first line in license key file.

    "ABC Corp"

    #

    # DMExpress 07/01/2011 12/02/2013 "node_u1" "x86_64" 16 * * 13324 224 1024 0 0 0 99.99.99 * X999-1

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Note that the comment line above the key is informational only, and editing it does not affect the key.

  2. Compare the node names in the file to that of the machine on which you are applying the key.
