Resolving the CPULMT License Key Error

Article #: Product: Version:

Summary

The CPULMT error is generated when the DMExpress license key used to install DMExpress or run the applykey utility is not valid for the number of logical processors on the system.

To resolve this error, verify whether the DMExpress license key was generated for at least the number of logical processors on the system where the license is being applied, and either run the applykey utility or obtain and apply a new DMExpress license key file.

Symptom

The error (CPULMT) the license key (<text>) is not valid for <text> cpu processors is generated when the DMExpress license key used to install DMExpress or run the applykey utility is not valid for the number of logical processors on the system.

DMExpress license key files are generated for a maximum number of logical processors, and this number must be equal to or greater than the number of logical processors on the machine on which the key is applied.

Resolution

Resolve the CPULMT error as follows:

  1. Verify whether the DMExpress license key was generated for at least the number of logical processors on the system on which it is being applied. To determine that number, run licenseinfo.exe and examine the value for "Logical Processors in System" (or "Maximum Logical Processors" for AIX systems) in the generated SyncsortLicenseInfo.txt file.

In the following example of a DMExpress license key file (with the actual license key masked out with x’s), note the number after the two quoted entries in the line that begins with # DMExpress (in this example, it is 16 processors):

    # The following line is REQUIRED and must be the first line in license key file.

    "ABC Corp"

    #

    # DMExpress 07/01/2011 12/02/2013 "node_u1" "x86_64" 16 * * 13324 224 1024 0 0 0 99.99.99 * X999-1

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

  2. Compare the number of processors in the DMExpress license key to the number of logical processors on the machine on which it is being applied.
